April 8, 2024
FLORENCE, Ala., –North Alabama Medical Center has agreed to partner with Northwest Shoals Community College to provide over 5,100 square feet of space at its Cloyd Blvd. campus to assists with healthcare education initiatives.
The agreement comes on the heels of NWSCC being awarded a $1.3 million grant aimed at addressing healthcare needs in four rural counties of northwest Alabama. The grant originated from State Legislative appropriations and was awarded through the Alabama Community College System. The counties of Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale and Lawrence are included.
“This is a win for everyone involved,” said NAMC CEO and Market President Russell Pigg. “We are always excited at opportunities to enhance nursing education in this area. This will ultimately result in more highly-trained nurses who live and work in the community.”
The Cloyd campus currently hosts NAMC’s Sleep Center, Wound Center, Outpatient Imaging and Center for Breast Health.
With the donated space, NWSCC plans to launch a stand-alone Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program, increasing access to nursing education for students in the region. It will also provide dual enrollment pathways for LPN Certification. Initiatives also include a robust non-credit health studies training center, offering specialized training programs to meet the evolving needs of healthcare professionals.
