Patient Returns to Thank ER Nurse with Hand-Knit Baby Blanket
June 20, 2019
Boone Carter came into the Emergency Room in February after a basketball accident left him with a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus. He was in extreme pain with spasms twisting his knee out of place. Boone says he was screaming for someone to hold his leg down and his nurse, Alex Sockwell, immediately jumped on top of his knee to keep it in place – even though she was pregnant.
“A lot of people would help, but not to the extent she did,” said Boone.
Alex is due with a baby boy in July.
Boone says he wanted to recognize Alex so he asked his grandmother to teach him how to knit a blanket during his recovery time. He says he completed about a row and let his grandmother finish. “It’s harder than it looks,” laughed Boone.
Boone’s mother, Liana Carter gave Alex a hug and whispered in her ear: “You’ll see when you have your own, how much it means for people to take care of your baby.”
This thoughtful gift brought Alex to tears. “I’ll never forget this,” said Alex. “My baby boy will have this forever.”
