iA trip to the emergency department is never fun. Emergency departments can be crowded, loud and overwhelming. We recognize these facts and created the OASIS emergency unit at North Alabama Medical Center. It provides a calm, healing environment for seniors – right here at home!
OASIS Emergency Services is an eight-bed unit within the NAMC Emergency Department. OASIS provides reduced-glare lighting, non-skid flooring, thicker mattresses on the treatment beds and a soothing color scheme. The entire area takes into account the fact that some geriatric patients have multiple diagnoses and may be prescribed medications which take more time to evaluate. The staff here is trained in the unique needs of geriatric patients and can call on NAMC’s on-site gerontologist.
It also provides a continuum of care with coordinated efforts by the Emergency OASIS unit, OASIS in-patient care and OASIS Senior Medicine.
