Endoscopy Services at North Alabama Medical Center primarily functions as an outpatient center, although inpatient services are provided on a 24/7 basis. Our team of Endoscopy trained RNs and techs work together to provide you with warmth, comfort, safety and support during your visit with us.
We have easy access with outpatient parking at the back of the hospital, and our own family lobby with updates frequently to our Patient Tracking system. For our dedicated physicians that may refer you to our facility, we staff three Video Procedure rooms, along with 11 preparation/recovery bays in our remodeled unit.
We provide a range of procedures for patients 13 years or older, including Colonoscopy (screenings start at 50), EGD (upper endoscopy), Bronchoscopy (airway inspection), ERCP (for diagnosing illnesses to removing stones in bile duct), and Sigmoidoscopy (shorter version of colonoscopy). In addition, Paracentesis (draining fluid from abdomen), Esophageal Manometry (measure esophageal function), and Pillcam Small Bowel studies are also performed. There are a range of therapeutic options we can use with these procedures, such as APC (argon plasma coagulation), Clips, Stents, Dilators, injections, tattooing (tumors) and banding.
For procedural comfort, we have several options that can be ordered by the physician. Sedation (RN administered) or MAC (CRNA administered) or Local topical anesthetic.
To be scheduled for a procedure, your physician will refer you to a GI, Surgeon or Pulmonologist who performs one of our procedures. After MD office calls you to select a date and send orders for scheduling, you will have several phone calls from Pre-Registration and PAT (pre-admission testing). You may also access online registration forms here. Schedule times are given by our department the weekday before your scheduled procedure date- you will call 256-629-1600 between 12:00-1:00 pm for your arrival time.
