North Alabama Medical Center’s Tri-State Center for Breast Health is proud to provide our patients the latest in 3D mammogram technology.
Utilizing advanced breast tomosynthesis technology, 3D mammography captures images of the breast from multiple angles to ensure a more complete and accurate scan. This enhanced visibility allows for earlier and more effective detection of breast cancer and helps reduce the need for patients to undergo additional testing. Patients will need to see their doctor for an order for the 3D mammogram.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this advanced technology and further enhance the high quality care we provide to the women in our community,” said Brandon Fisher, Director of Imaging Services at Tri-State Center for Breast Health. “The 3D mammography service will help make it possible to detect breast cancer in earlier stages so that treatment can begin sooner, giving our patients a greater chance of beating the disease.”
A 3D mammogram follows the same basic procedure of standard 2D digital mammography and requires no additional breast compression. It lasts just a few seconds longer than a 2D mammogram.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Regular mammogram screenings are recommended for women age 40 and above as an essential tool for early detection and the fight against breast cancer.
The benefits of 3D mammography:
– About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer
– 3D mammography can reduce unnecessary callbacks compared to 3D alone*
– Research shows that 3D mammography increases cancer detection by up to 40%*
